What is a Discrete Frequency Table?

A Discrete Frequency Table is a statistical tool used to organize a set of data by showing the number of times each individual score or value occurs. It is most effective when working with discrete variables—values that can be counted and do not have fractional parts (e.g., number of goals, family size, or test scores).

Key Components for Data Analysis

• Value (x): The specific data point being observed.
• Frequency (f): How many times that value appears in your dataset.
• Cumulative Frequency: The sum of frequencies of all values up to that point, used to determine rank and medians.
• Relative Frequency: The percentage of the total that each value represents.

Calculating Central Tendency

By organizing data into a frequency table, you can easily calculate the Mean, Median, and Mode. For example, the mode is simply the value with the highest frequency, which is immediately visible in a well-structured table.
